Graduate Research Assistant (Ph.D.) and Postdoctoral Research Associate in Environmental Engineering at Clemson University

A graduate research assistant (Ph.D.) and a postdoctoral research associate position are available immediately at the Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology and Forest Science, in Georgetown, South Carolina, for the risks of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) caused by treated wastewater irrigation in agricultural soils. This position will be supported by a recently funded USDA-AFRI project entitled “Identifying effective farming practices to reduce risks of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in food crop productions”.

The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work with a team of scientists in biogeochemistry, wastewater/water treatment, and soil chemistry in different universities/institutes to investigate the adsorption and desorption of PFAS under the different water matrix and the PFAS transport and fate from soils to plants under different irrigation methods. He/she will be actively engaged in most aspects of the research and will be encouraged to involve with other funded projects (such as soil/dissolved organic matter and disinfection byproducts) in the group (See below link). He/she will have the opportunity to develop his/her own research ideas within the project goals.

The graduate student position for a Ph.D. assistantship is up to 4 years with a tuition waiver. The postdoctoral appointment is full-time for one year, with the option for up to 3 years depending on performance. Candidates in a relevant science or engineering field such as environmental engineering/ science and agricultural engineering are encouraged to apply.
