Dr. Xunchang Fei joined Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 2018 as an assistant professor. He was appointed the deputy director of Residues & Resource Reclamation Centre in Nanyang Environment and Water Research Institute in 2019, and was appointed the co-leader of Waste for Urban Infrastructure Research Cluster in Centre for Urban Solutions in 2020.
His main research areas are: 1) solid waste recycling, recovery, treatment, and management; 2) landfill operation, monitoring, remediation, and mining; and 3) geoenvironmental engineering instruments and processes. He has published more than 30 peer-reviewed articles and conference proceedings on journals including Geotechnique, Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, Waste Management, Environmental International, Journal of Cleaner Production, and Journal of Hazardous Materials.
He received the Bright Spark Lecture Award at the 8th International Congress on Environmental Geotechnics organized by the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering in 2018. He has secured around S$4 million at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, as the principal investigator.
He graduated with a BS degree in Environemntal Science from Tongji University, Shanghai, China in 2008. He obtained MS in Environmental Engineering, MS in Civil Engineering, and PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, United States in 2010 and 2015, respectively. He worked as postdoctoral researcher at the University of Michigan in 2016 and at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia between 2016 and 2018.
