Dr. Hao Tang Received 2014 CAPEES Distinguished Service Award

Chinese-American Professors in Environmental Engineering and Science (CAPEES) awarded Hao Tang, Ph.D., P.E the CAPEES Distinguished Service Award, for his dedicated service for CAPEES in the past 7 years. During the 7 years, CAPEES has grown from a 7-person group to an international organization that includes almost all Chinese-American Professors in the Environmental Area. Dr. Tang is a registered professional engineer (environmental) in the state of Arizona (Certificate No. 58526). He obtained his B.S. from Hunan University in China, and M.S. and Ph.D. both from the Pennsylvania State University (University Park), all in environmental engineering. His research and technical activities are in the area of water and wastewater treatment. Dr. Tang specializes in sustainable wastewater treatment and reuse; disinfection and disinfection byproduct control in drinking water; and design-build of decentralized package systems.

Postdoctoral Associate in Wastewater Treatment

The Department of Earth and Environmental Studies at Montclair State University (Montclair, New Jersey) is seeking a full-time postdoctoral associate in wastewater treatment. The postdoctoral scholar will be mentored by Dr. Yang Deng, and participate in a research effort focused on characterization of UV-induced dissolved organic matters in landfill leachate as well as evaluation of different treatment processes for mitigation of leachate UV absorbance. The project involves various analytical techniques to characterize organic substances in wastewater, and laboratory-scale wastewater treatment experiments.

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in environmental engineering, environmental science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related fields. Preferred candidates are expected to have a strong background in chemical analysis of dissolved organic matters in water and wastewater, and/or physicochemical or biological wastewater treatment. Excellence in English writing/oral communication and ability to work both independently and in collaborative teams are required. Experience with one or more of the following is highly desired: various analytical techniques to characterize dissolved organic substances in water; traditional and advanced physical and chemical water/wastewater treatment; and aerobic biological wastewater treatment. The initial appointment is anticipated for one year with the possibility of extension, depending on performance. Review will begin immediately and continue until position is filled.

Applications can be submitted to Dr. Yang Deng by email (dengy@mail.montcalir.edu). The application file should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, contact information of three references, and copies of 1 or 2 representative publications.

With a proud history and a vibrant future, Montclair State University is the second largest public institution in New Jersey. Located 14 miles west of New York City on a 246-acre campus which boasts modern, state-of-the-art facilities complemented by green spaces, public plazas, and early twentieth-century architecture, the University offers a comprehensive undergraduate curriculum with a global focus, as well as a broad variety of superior graduate programs through the doctoral level. In the summer of 2015, our laboratory will be moved to the Center for Environmental and Life Sciences (CELS), a brand-new, 100,000 sq. ft. science building devoted to environmental research.
