Postdoc Position @ Villanova

One postdoctoral researcher position is available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Villanova University under the supervision of Prof. Wenqing Xu. The successful candidate will conduct research on a multidisciplinary research project to understand the adsorption and transformation of nitrogenous organic contaminants on the surfaces of pyrogenic carbonaceous materials (eg., activated carbon and biochar). The candidate will have opportunities to interact with collaborators from other academic institutions, state, and federal agencies. The candidate will also be expected to assist in the training and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students, assisting with the preparation of project reports, and disseminating results in journal publications and conferences. Teaching opportunities can be arranged if the candidate desires.
The ideal candidate must have: (1) a Ph.D. degree in analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental engineering or related fields with a strong background in water chemistry and surface characterization; (2) experience in using analytical instruments (IC, UPLC, GC/MS/MS and Q-TOF-MS); (3) experience in surface functionalization and characterization (FT-IR, XPS, TEM); (4) a strong track record of refereed journal publications; and (5) ability to work independently; (6) strong written and oral communication skills.

The expected start date for the position is August 30, 2019 for a duration of one year, with
possibility of extension upon satisfactory performance. The review process begins
