Master Graduate Research Assistantship @ Villanova

One master graduate research assistantship is available immediately in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Villanova University under the supervision of Prof. Wenqing Xu. The successful candidate will conduct research on a multidisciplinary research project to understand the adsorption and transformation of nitrogenous organic contaminants on the surfaces of pyrogenic carbonaceous materials (eg., activated carbon and biochar). The candidate will have opportunities to interact with collaborators from other academic institutions, state, and federal agencies. The candidate will also be expected to assist in the training and mentoring of undergraduate students and disseminate results in journal publications and conferences.
The successful candidate should have: (1) a strong understanding in general chemistry, analytical chemistry, and organic chemistry. Knowledge in environmental chemistry and material chemistry is highly desirable. Experience in analytical instruments (HPLC, GC/MS) and surface characterization (FT-IR) is a plus; (2) ability to work independently with great work ethics; and (3) strong written and oral communication skills. Full tuition and 12-month stipend will be provided by Prof. Wenqing Xu.
